What Happens When We Die
Let me start with this, how can we go to heaven or hell when we die if we haven’t been judged yet? Jesus will come to judge us, until then……
John 5:28-29 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, to the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of damnation.
Revelation 20:11-13 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades (abode of the dead) gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Many look at the story of The Rich Man and Lazarus where the rich man looks up from Hades and say it’s proof that we go to heaven or hell when we die, but they are not understanding that Jesus was telling a parable, just a story to teach a lesson.
What does the Bible say about death
Ecclesiastes 12:7 then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.
The persons spirit goes back to God. It does not say that the soul goes to heaven or hell.
John 5:28 – 29 Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.
Notice that it says “in the tombs”. Now there is another part of the Bible that tells us some will still be alive, because some will be here to see Christ come again, but those who die, are in the grave, not in heaven or hell.
Acts 17:31 because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.”
Here it explains that Christ will come to judge us on that last day, so, how can anyone be in heaven or hell before they’re judged?
So what is the state of the dead?
1 Thessalonians. 4:13-18. But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve, as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, and remain until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have FALLEN ASLEEP. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words
The scripture tells us that when we die, we are as asleep, we know nothing, we see nothing, we die then wake up to meet Jesus in the clouds when he comes to judge the world. Here are more verses that says the same thing.
Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Notice, it’s the contempt that is everlasting, this is not saying people last forever in contempt.
John 11:11-14 These things said he: and after that he said to them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. However, Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. Then said Jesus to them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten.
Psalm 115:17 The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.
Martin Luther, leader of the Protestant Reformation, wrote at one point: “It is probable, in my opinion, that, with very few exceptions indeed, the dead sleep in utter insensibility till the day of judgment.
What Happens When We Die
Gods church WILL be here on that last day, the church will go through the end time plagues.
There is so much talk that God’s church will not have to go through the torment of the end time, no plagues, we will be raptured, but the Bible says something different.
To study this, there is only one place to go, the Bible.
We will all see his coming, everyone will see it.
All will go through the time of tribulation.
Those who are not saved will be the ones taken/swept away.
Here is a verse that causes most of the misunderstanding:
Matthew 24:36-41 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. “For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. “Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. “Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left.
People read this and assume the ones left will be the sinners, the lost, the people who will not go to heaven, but those people need to learn to read because it’s clear in those verses that the ones outside the ark are the ones taken, and because that is the example we have for the end, it’s the lost who will be taken, not God’s children.
Genesis 7:23 Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark.
So who was left behind? Noah and his family where the ones left behind. The evil ones, they were taken away by the flood, they were the ones taken. The sinners will be taken to damnation and God’s people will remain to meet up with Jesus.
So, will the rapture be a secret? Many look at this verse and assume it will be a secret:
1 Thessalonians 5:2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
But what does that mean? It means that we will not know when, that’s all. Just because someone comes at night does not mean you won’t know when the thief is there, it only means you wont know before it happens, you wont know until it is happening. The following verses give light to this.
Matthew 24:27 For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
John 5:28-29 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, to the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of damnation.
Matthew 24:29-31 “But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. “And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory. “And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
Matthew 24 says that Jesus will NOT come until AFTER the tribulation. The next verse shows that there will be his people on the earth when he comes.
1 Thessalonians. 4:13-18 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve, as do the rest who have no hope.
So lets put those verse together. When Jesus returns, it will be seen by everyone (Matthew 24:27). He will not return until after the tribulation (Matthew 24:29-31). When he returns the dead will come out of the graves, the good and the evil/bad (John 5:28-29). When the good people who are going to heaven come out of the graves, then God’s people who are still alive will meet up with them (1 Thessalonians. 4:13-18).
This is so clear, I don’t understand how anyone can get this wrong, yet this false doctrine is being taught and believed by almost all who claim to be Christians.
When Jesus returns, he will have his people alive, still on the earth, and on that day everyone will see his coming, the dead who will be condemned, the dead in Christ who will be given immortality, the living who will be condemned and the living who will be given immortality, all will see his coming.
People need to always study Gods word, not just listen to some lost preacher or some movie like “Left Behind”.
Everyone on earth will see the second coming, as the Bible just said in Matthew 24
John 5:28 – 29 Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.
John 5 explains that the good and the bad, the saved and the condemned, will come forth at the same time, when Jesus returns. Also, take note of the possibilities, either “life” or “judgement”, it’s not life or life.
Videos About Death and Hell
What church you go to or what denomination you are does not matter, the only thing that matters is the Bible and the Bible alone. I chose videos from Doug Batchelor because he puts the Bible first. He speaks in a way that is easy to listen to and only goes by scripture, God’s word.
